Electric Company Gives
Some Perspective on Electricity Price Increases

As the price per barrel of crude oil rises, so does the price we pay for gasoline at the pump. Natural gas is no different and since it is responsible for over 70% of electricity generated in Texas the bills you receive in the mail increase as the price of natural gas skyrockets. The price of natural gas has increased from $5.93 in Jun of 2006 to $11.91 in Jun of 2008. Even with a 100% natural gas increase, Texas Power’s rates have only gone up 37% in the same period.

There are a few reasons for this steady pricing in a volatile market. Texas Power is owned by Texans, operated by Texans and all of its employees are Texans just like you. It is because of this that we can sympathize with the burdens Texans face. The extreme heat in the summer and unpredictable winters are just a few of those Texas challenges. We also understand the additional energy it requires to combat these situations and so we try our best to keep the problems limited to the heat outside instead of the bill in the mail.

Another reason we are able to keep our rates in check is because we keep our overhead low. We don’t have an oversized or pretentious office building and we don’t hand out million dollar bonuses to our executives. Instead of doing these things, we pass the savings on to our customers.

We do all of these things because we care about and appreciate our customers. We know we aren’t the biggest provider in Texas, but our customers stick with us. They stay us with us through the natural gas price hikes because they know that we keep them in mind and maintain a low and steady rate for them.
